Do you have to be an athlete to train at YPT?

NO!!  There is a big misconception that we only train athletes.  This could not be further from the truth.  That being said, we consider everyone to be an athlete (of some sort), even if you are just playing the game of life.  We train individuals from all walks of life, whether they are stay-at-home moms, professional athletes or seniors.  Everyone is welcome at YPT!

Is there a consultation to see what YPT is all about without having to commit?

Of course!  Every new member receives a complementary 1 on 1 consultation that includes:  Goal Setting, Functional Movement Screen (which reveals any movement deficiencies we need to know about in designing your individualized program); Body Composition assessment (upon request); and a basic “assessment” workout that includes an introduction to the concepts of the YPT philosophy.  We also offer a one-month trail membership.  Call (860) 739-0042 for more details.

How does your system work? Am I on my own or will I have help?

The beauty of our system is that every member will always be monitored and directed by coaches who will make the necessary modifications and progressions.  Every aspect of your fitness/performance program is completely planned out for you and all the guesswork eliminated.  Call (860) 739-0042 and schedule our newest trial and see for yourself.

Do I make an appointment for the desired times I would like to work out or can I just show up?

Yes, you will be required to schedule all training appointments.  If every one of our members showed up at once without making an appointment, our staff would be unprepared and spread too thin. To assure the finest quality, we require everyone to schedule appointments.  We strive to be very accommodating to your busy lifestyle.

Do you offer 1 on 1 private coaching?

We truly believe all of your fitness and performance needs can be taken care of and accomplished through our semiprivate coaching. 1 on 1 private coaching will be entertained only for those who post severe physical limitations or who have extra-ordinary performance goals.   Call for pricing.

How are payments processed?

All payments are conducted using an Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) that automatically withdraws a monthly payment from a credit card or debit card. Payment withdrawal occurs at the end of each month.

I am interested in your membership, but I am not interested in being billed by EFT/Credit card/ Checking account.  Can I pay on the same date every month with a check, credit/debit card, or cash instead?

Unfortunately, no.  We really try to focus all of our efforts on improving your lifestyle, and prefer not be in the money collecting business. The only other option is to buy "sessions" and use them as you like, or purchase a 6 month membership paid up front, in full.

The Membership Rate is a little high compared to the other clubs that I've visited. Why?

We do not feel our memberships are high for what we offer.  As a matter of fact if you break it down, our most expensive membership comes out to be $14/session or just $8/day!!  For the price of a Starbucks Coolatta you receive professional level training that is second to none in the region. Many people think they are only  paying for their time at the gym and don’t consider the amount of time and effort the staff puts in to the design of their individualized program and nutritional plans when you are away from the gym (think of a lawyer working on your case). Basically it all comes down to priorities.  If you're looking for results and appreciate quality, then we are for you.

I have trained here before, and your price structure was different, can I pay my old rate or do the new rates/structure now apply to me?

Just like any service or product, prices do increase. If you have been absent from us for more than 30 days, you are subject to our most current rates and price structure.

"Mr. Smith's" membership rate is different than the one you are offering, why is that and can you offer me the same rate as "Mr. Smith"?

Chances are "Mr. Smith" joined our club when our price/ structure was different. We will honor "Mr. Smith's" rate as long as he is a current member. You are subject to our new rates and structure, but just like "Mr. Smith", we will honor your rate/ structure as long as you are a current member, no matter what future increases in rates may occur.

Will my membership rate ever increase?

Absolutely not! Your rate is locked in forever as long as you stay current with your membership.  If your membership is allowed to lapse for more than 30 days, you will be subject to the latest rate increase upon return.

Membership Freezes: Can I freeze my membership?

Yes. All members can freeze their 12-month membership up to three (3) consecutive or random months for only $35/month.

Family or Couples: My husband and I want to join, are there family options?

Yes, we offer memberships for 2 family members as well as a special rate for 3 or more family members.  Funds must be drawn from a single bank account.

If I do not use all of my sessions that I am allocated within the month, can I transfer them over to the next month?

Unfortunately no.  All members are allocated a certain number of training sessions per month based on the membership they chose.

Do I have to sign an agreement upon joining?

Yes.  All members must sign an agreement when choosing a membership and joining our club for two reasons: one, we feel the best way to achieve your goals is to commit long term to an exercise program and invest in yourself.  As a staff, we have made a serious commitment to helping you achieve those goals and expect you to make the same commitment.  Second, the signed agreement allows us to place you into our third party billing system so monthly payments are withdrawn easily.

Will I be penalized for cancelling my membership?

Not if you relocate out of the area (20 mile radius) or have a doctor’s note stating that you cannot exercise at this time.  If cancellation still occurs without any of the two exemptions mentioned above, then he/she is required to pay 80% of the remaining membership agreement balance.

I’ve heard a lot about the importance of training for young athletes. What is an appropriate age to start formal training?

At YPT we like to start training athletes around 12 or 13 years old.  This does not mean an athlete cannot start training earlier. However, from my experience, athletes who reach the age of 12 or 13 are a little more physically able and MENTALLY mature enough to handle our training programs.

I have never trained before. Will I be placed in a beginner group or mixed with more advanced trainees?

All clients train in groups consisting of different people from all walks of life and varying ability levels.  This “team” training approach has proven successful in many arenas including physical therapy settings, team training facilities and adult recreation.  Although it is a group setting, your program is individualized to your needs and everyone is focused on doing their own workout and not worried about what you are doing.  In the ten plus years we’ve been in business, we have never had an issue integrating beginners with intermediate and advanced athletes. In fact our experienced trainees end up taking our less experienced clients "under their wing" and assist them in learning the program.

My son/daughter plays baseball/softball.  What "baseball/softball specific" exercises do you do to improve arm strength?

Despite what you may read or hear, there is no such thing as "sport-specific" exercises.  At YPT we educate our athletes that things such as improving arm strength or becoming faster are based around our principles of becoming a stronger, more stable, mobile, and more powerful athlete.  We train the body from the inside out and from the ground up; a total body approach.  The only aspect of training that is "sport-specific" is the conditioning component.  Proper conditioning is based upon the energy demands of the sport.  In other words, we condition our football athletes differently than our soccer or tennis athletes, and so forth.

I've heard that female athletes are more susceptible to knee injuries. Does your program address these special needs for female athletes?

Yes, female athletes are more susceptible to knee injuries, especially tearing of the ACL.  All of our programs are developed with an approach of injury reduction first. All athletes are educated on the importance of learning proper technique and are progressed accordingly.  When it comes to female athletes, an emphasis is placed on strengthening areas of the lower body, including specific muscles of the hip region as well as the hamstrings, as weaknesses in these areas can result in knee pain and instability which in turn leads to injury.
